ATLANTA, Ga. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns brought the brooms to the Peach State on Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of Georgia State with a 10-4 victory at the GSU Baseball Complex. The Cajuns erupted for 28 runs over 3 games — a total that’s likely to haunt Atlanta sports fans, evoking not-so-fond memories of a certain 28-3 Super Bowl collapse by the Falcons.
With the win, Louisiana improves to 25-24 overall and 15-9 in Sun Belt Conference play, staying in the top four in the SBC standings as they chase down postseason positioning.
Sunday’s finale saw the Cajuns crank out 15 hits, led by Luke Yuhasz, who crushed a two-run homer and finished with 4 RBIs. Not to be outdone, Conor Higgs added a two-run bomb of his own—his 15th of the season—continuing his march up the program’s all-time home run list.
Lee Amedee was a force from the leadoff spot, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases, while Jose Torres and Caleb Stelly each added RBI hits in a six-run fifth inning that blew the game open.
On the mound, JR Tollett (5-4) earned the win with five strong innings, scattering four hits and striking out six. The bullpen duo of Dylan Theut and Blake McGehee closed things out, combining for four innings of one-run ball.
Georgia State tried to claw back behind Kaleb Freeman’s three-hit day—including a solo homer—but couldn’t keep pace with the Cajuns’ relentless offense.
Across the three-game series, Louisiana outscored Georgia State 28-13, echoing a familiar number for sports fans in Atlanta, where 28-3 is less a score than a scar.
Next up, the Cajuns head to Hattiesburg for a critical three-game showdown with #22-ranked Southern Miss starting May 9. With only two weekends left in the regular season, every game looms large in the race for Sun Belt seeding.
But for now, Louisiana can enjoy their sweep—and maybe send a thank-you note to the Falcons for reminding us all that 28-3 is still the ultimate Georgia nightmare.
