MONROE, La. – April 13, 2025 — In a tight Sun Belt showdown at Lou St. Amant Field, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns couldn’t quite find the late-inning magic and fell 3-2 to ULM in a Saturday afternoon battle that stayed tense from first pitch to final out.
The loss drops the Cajuns to 17-22 overall and 8-7 in conference play, while the Warhawks improved to 18-19 and 5-10 in the Sun Belt.
Louisiana struck first, wasting no time putting pressure on ULM starter Brennan Eager. Luke Yuhasz ripped a double down the left field line in the first, and after a groundout advanced him to third, Caleb Stelly brought him home with a routine ground ball to short to give the Cajuns an early 1-0 lead.
But ULM responded quickly. In the second inning, Henry Garcia Jr. led off with a single and Colby Lunsford followed with a two-run blast to left field that shifted momentum and the scoreboard in ULM’s favor.
Louisiana clawed back to tie it in the fourth, sparked by back-to-back hits from Stelly and Lee Amedee. A groundout RBI from Maddox Mandino knotted things up at 2-2, but that would be the last time the Cajuns crossed the plate.
Cajuns starter JR Tollett gave his squad a competitive outing, working 6.1 innings while allowing three earned runs on seven hits and just one walk. Unfortunately, the go-ahead run came in the seventh when ULM's Michelle Artzberger reached on a single and was driven in by Isaiah Walker’s RBI knock off reliever Riley Marcotte.
Louisiana threatened in the fifth and eighth innings but couldn’t capitalize. A key double from Conor Higgs in the fifth and a defensive miscue by ULM in the eighth gave the Cajuns baserunners, but timely groundouts and a double play dashed hopes of a late rally.
Zach Shaw locked things down for ULM with three scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits while striking out four. He improved to 3-0 on the season, while Tollett dropped to 3-3.
Offensively, Yuhasz led Louisiana with a 2-for-3 day, including his seventh double of the season. Stelly also notched a hit, an RBI, and drew a walk.
It was the first time in 13 seasons that Louisiana has lost a weekend conference series to the Warhawks. The Cajuns return to action on Thursday when they face Old Dominion in the first game of a three game conference series.
