MONROE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns fell just short in a 10-inning battle against ULM on Saturday afternoon, losing 4-3 in walk-off fashion at Lou St. Amant Field. Despite a late rally to tie the game in the eighth, Louisiana couldn’t hold off the Warhawks, who capitalized on a 10th-inning error to claim the Sun Belt Conference victory.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (17-21, 8-6 SBC) were limited to just five hits, but made them count, particularly in the eighth when Lee Amedee delivered a clutch two-run double to knot the game at 3-3. Amedee led Louisiana at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Caleb Stelly, Jose Torres, and Griffin Hebert each chipped in a hit, with Torres driving in the Cajuns’ first run in the second inning.
Andrew Herrmann started for Louisiana and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. After solid relief outings from Dylan Theut and Blake McGehee, the game turned in the 10th when ULM’s Henry Garcia Jr. led off with a double. A throwing error moved him to third, setting up the walk-off fielder’s choice by Marcus Aranda.
ULM (17-19, 4-10 SBC) was paced by Kade Dupont, who had a standout performance, going 4-for-5 and scoring a run. Colby Lunsford added two hits, including a solo home run in the fourth. Garcia Jr. also doubled and scored the winning run after reaching base on the only hit in the 10th.
Josh Gregoire (2-1) earned the win for ULM after tossing 2.1 shutout innings in relief, striking out three and walking one. McGehee (3-4) took the loss for Louisiana despite giving up just one earned run in three innings.
Louisiana’s bullpen kept the Cajuns in the game, but the offense couldn’t overcome ULM’s nine-hit performance and missed opportunities—leaving six runners on base and hitting into a double play in the opening frame.
The Cajuns look to bounce back in the rubber match of the series, hoping to avoid a key Sun Belt road series loss. First pitch is set for 1pm Sunday at Lou St. Amant Field.
