In a significant shift within the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball program, both hitting coach Shellie Landry and pitching coach Shelbi Sunseri have departed following the 2025 season. This development comes after a season marked by transition, including the arrival of head coach Alyson Habetz and a restructured coaching staff.
Shellie Landry, an All-American outfielder for Louisiana from 2013 to 2016, returned to her alma mater in September 2023 to serve as the team’s hitting coach. During her tenure, she guided the Ragin’ Cajuns’ offense to a Top 20 national batting average (.317) against a Top 5-rated strength of schedule in her first year on staff .
Shelbi Sunseri, a former All-American pitcher and utility player at LSU, joined the Ragin’ Cajuns as pitching coach in July 2024. Prior to her arrival in Lafayette, Sunseri served as the pitching coach at McNeese State, where she led the Cowgirls’ pitching staff to a Top 30 national ranking in earned run average and mentored the 2024 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year .
The departures of Landry and Sunseri mark a new chapter for the Ragin’ Cajuns softball program as it continues to evolve under Coach Habetz’s leadership. The search for new coaching staff members is expected to focus on individuals who can uphold and enhance the program’s tradition of excellence.
As the Ragin’ Cajuns look ahead to the upcoming season, the team remains committed to building upon its storied history and achieving new heights in collegiate softball.
